Project Overview:

Full electrical Mains Distribution replacement including Sub Mains to all areas of the site being replaced. Including new UPS system.

New mains switch room to be built to house the bespoke mains distribution panel


G M Monk were successful in securing this project and took on the Main Contractor status for the project which included building, scaffolding, asbestos removal and surveys, fire alarms, specialist generator and UP contractors.
Part of the project was to design the new sub mains and containment, for which we used our in-house design team. This process enabled more efficient changes to be made for the client and to ensure the project was kept to programme.
The installation required a new mains switch room to be built to house the bespoke mains distribution panel which was produced by a specialist company at Burgess Hill. Once this was delivered to site, our electrical team were able to start arranging containment and cabling. The installation of the sub mains from their new mains position to all riser and vital positions within the site consisted of running full containment throughout the building in both ceilings and under floors, with the longest run comprising of over 180 meters from the main distribution.
This project also involved the design and construction of a new UPS system which was conducted by a specialist company and introduced a temporary generator to cover the existing buildings while we reassigned the existing generators to cover the distribution panel.

Key Challenges:

Due to the invasive components to this works and keeping the building in full working and safe order for its users, much of this work was conducted over night and at weekends. We operated with 3 teams of electricians and apprentices to carry out this element of the project to aid efficiency and to accommodate the time sensitive nature of specific components of the work.
Key to the project’s success was daily communication with the client’s consultancy team and key departments such as ICT to ensure that there was never any disruption to the users of the building or the electrical supply.
