History of G M Monk


Operations - 1979 - 2009


G M Monk first started back in June 1979 by Gerry Monk, initially incorporated decorating in its services but very soon specialised in electrical contracting and gradually grew to become a successful and thriving business. First run by a husband and wife team for many years Carol took over the helm alone after Gerry past away in 1991. Gerry had always used the philosophy of ‘a good job for a fair price’ which has still continued to today.

Carol continued to take G M Monk forward progressing the business into company status in 1996. In 2001 the company moved into Southerden House in Hailsham were it continued to grow to where it is now. At present it employees 46 staff including 23 electricians, 5 PAT testers, 7 apprentices, 3 administration staff and 8 managerial staff. Both Steven Monk and Scott Monk both work within the company. Steve continues to work out on site and as an estimator while Scott takes up a managerial role within the office gradually learning the role of Carol. Still with G M Monk today is Bruce Fairway, the first employee taken on by Gerry.

All types of work are undertaken by G M Monk, from domestic to commercial and industrial. Present contracts include clients from Wealden District Council, East Sussex County Council, East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service, Eastbourne Borough Council, Serco, Rok and Morgan Ashurst to mention a few. Adding to these we still continue to extend our service to domestic customers many local that have used G M Monk for many years.
